Coast Guard Support
Under the framework of EU funded project titled “Strengthening the Operational Capacities of the Turkish Coast Guard (TCG) in managing migration flows in the Mediterranean Sea”, IOM organized, supervised and implemented various capacity-building activities for the Turkish Coast Guard and other law enforcement personnel, totalling over 600 participants this quarter. In the final months of 2017, IOM provided six trainings on Effective Phone Communication to 167 TCG staff and two interview technique trainings to 47 TCG staff. The trainings aimed to enhance pariticpants’ skills to effectively respond to emergency calls from migrants and improve their ability to better communicate. It focused on cultural sensitivities, efficient use of questioning techniques, body language and time management. Additionally, IOM successfully provided a “Training of Trainers on International Migration Law (IML)” in Antalya to 30 participants from the TCG, Gendarmerie, and the Turkish National Police in December 2017.
